Day 1 - 01/10/18

I took areas around the Archway area, to capture the essence of 'street photography.' I used techniques such as shaking the camera to create a blur and manipulate how the image would turn out. For instance, it created the illusion of a busy and rushed street, even if that was not the case in reality. An unexpected out come from the camera shake photos I took was the round blur in the photo of my shoes, which resembled a water ripple.

Day 2 - 02/10/18

We took many photos in pairs today as part of the 'Do, Undo, Redo' segment of the project. I was able to experiment with non conventional fashion materials, such as bubblewrap and coloured wire to style on my partner. Using seemingly unrelated words from a cue list, I was able to come up with several ideas for looks and photos. This was my first styling experience, and while it was interesting, I found myself to be more involved with the photography aspect of it. My favourite part, however, was creating the layout for the magazine publication. I chose to have the material, bubblewrap, to be the focus of the issue, having it on both the front and back cover without a fashion look. I looked online for many fonts before finding the perfect typeface to complement the themes. I decided a lowercase sans serif would be appropriate for the headers as it created a softer look, to match the delicate bubblewrap. In contrast, the body text would be sans serif.  It was interesting moving the text around in InDesign to find where it would stand out the most, and in which colour.

Day 3 - 04/10/18

The feedback I received was helpful, and I agreed with some. While I wanted one page to have a long article, I understand why some people would think it was too much text on one page. However, I did not intend for the magazine to be just a fashion lookbook, therefore long articles may have been appropriate. I was happy with the accent pages which featured the coloured wires, although some peers thought it did not match the overall mood of the publication. If I were to do it again, I would probably feature more colour on each page (small features) so that one double spread would not be too shocking. It was difficult to select images from the range we took but I had fun cropping and editing the colours in order to suit the mood of the work.
