Day 1 - 08/10/18

We did an exercise prior to composing our print image which involved drawing each of our three chosen photographs in 10, 5, and 2 shapes in 3 minutes, as well as a more detailed rendering using 15-20 shapes in 15 minutes. By shading in the shapes black, or leaving them white, we were able to leave a high contrast drawing in pop art effect. As we were given the same time to draw fewer shapes, I began looking at the images closer and drawing each shape in more detail.

Day 2 - 09/10/18

The exercise allowed me to visualise how I could combine the three chosen photographs into one single image. I included elements of the skyline and ocean into the background and the ferris wheel and ferry pier into the midground. I chose to use one point perspective to draw the eye to the body figure as the central focus of the foreground.

Day 3 - 11/10/18

When looking at my work with a group of peers, we agreed that while the image is strong, clear and has visual balance, the narrative may not be as clear to the viewer without context. For example, the figure in the middle of the composition stood out, but the reason as to why he was there was blurrier. The 3 images I chose to combine for this illustration were things/places/people that were important to me, but hearing from my peers made me realise that it was not very obvious. I am satisfied with the way the print turned out overall as I learned the process of relief printing through a press, and I achieved a balanced image out of it.
